Counterweight Plus- Am I eligible?



Your care is important to us. We will assess whether you are suitable to follow the Counterweight Plus programme using the following screening. 


We can only enrol you on the programme if you are aged 18-75 years. 

Body Mass Index (BMI)

Your BMI must fall into one of the following categories:

Caucasian: BMI over 30

Asian: BMI over 28 

If you have Type 2 Diabetes your BMI must be:

Caucasian: BMI over 28

Asian: BMI over 26 

If you are unsure of your BMI we can discuss this at your telephone screening appointment. 

Exclusion Criteria

It is not recommended to follow the Counterweight- Plus programme if you have any of the following medical conditions.

  • Active mental illness such as severe depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia or other psychotic disorder
  • Myocardial infarction or stroke within the previous 3 months
  • Severe or unstable Heart Failure
  • Prophyria
  • Pregnant until > 4 months post partum; breastfeeding
  • Substance abuse e.g. drugs or alcohol
  • Eating disorder accompanied by purging (through laxative abuse or induced vomiting)

Medication review

Your safety is important to us. We follow precise medical management guidelines for changes to medications prior to commencing the Total Diet Replacement (TDR) phase. We will advise you on these. Depending on your medical history we may need to submit a medical query form to a Professor at Counterweight for further guidance.
